Record collections in the future

Most of us of a certain age have a record collection (whether vinyl or CD). A collection can reference our musical loves over a lifetime and remind us what records we (don’t) want to listen to again.

With the current trend for streaming (Spotify etc) there seems to be no way of remembering what music you like! You can set up playlists which only feature an album but the filing system isn’t great. Personally (I have a Spotify account) I can’t remember what I played last week never mind 6 months ago and there is nothing to remind me.

So are record collections a thing of the past? Will most young people never have a record collection again? This would be a real pity.

Is there an answer to this? I don’t think streaming is going to go away.  I read the other day that the new Apple / Beats service might concentrate more on albums rather than single tracks. Has anyone got a solution?
