HJOP by Gnoss

Glasgow based folk quartet Gnoss – Aidan Moodie, Graham Rorie, Connor Sinclair, and Craig Baxter – return with their brand new single “HJOP”: an uplifting statement of continued form from a group at the forefront of Scottish traditional folk music. HJOP is Gnoss’ first release since their acclaimed 2023 LP “Stretching Skyward” and marks the start of a new stream of music set for launch throughout 2025

HJOP will be released on Friday 9th May in the midst of Gnoss’ most comprehensive UK tour yet; a 21-stop journey that includes a 400-cap show in London’s “Kings Place” (their biggest headline show outside of hometown Glasgow) as well as main-stage slots at Skye Live, The Reeling, and The Orkney Folk Festival.

Recorded in January while preparing for their sold-out Celtic Connections show, HJOP brings together Gnoss’ trademark acoustic and electric layers around a tune penned by the band’s own Graham Rorie (fiddle, electric tenor guitar), and marks the start of a new collaboration between the band and award-winning studio engineer Stuart Hamilton (Castlesound Studios)

“Us four in Gnoss are in awe of the acoustic sounds Stuart finds. As this new music started taking shape, we knew it’d be the perfect time to work together.” says Graham Rorie, who describes how “On our last record, we wanted to experiment with new sounds and studio techniques. We ended up pushing that pretty far! For these tracks, we wanted to re-focus and concentrate on the main acoustic sounds that make our music what it is.”

Listen to the new single HJOP from Friday 9th May, featuring cover art from Glasgow-based visual artist Somhairle MacDonald.
