Band Name:An Carra

Band information:

An Carra are an all-female Scottish-German folk and trad band based in Scotland, sharing traditional songs and tunes from Scotland and North Germany. Our line-up includes Sheena Peteranna from the Isle of South Uist on pipes, whistles and flute; Lauren Mowat from Melvich on guitar, whistles and pipes; Emilia Marienfeld from the Isle of Föhr (Germany) on vocals, fiddle and piano; and Marit Schöpel from Anglia (Germany) on trumpet, bass, vocals. We met whilst living on South Uist, pursuing our music studies at the University of the Highlands and Islands. Inspired by the nature and community we found ourselves in, we created a sound that felt natural to us as a band, and as friends. A lot of our music is self-composed and with that we aim to celebrate the folk traditions of where we are from. We are especially proud to sing songs in Frisian, the minority language found in North Germany, as well as some English songs too. Our passion is to revive not only Frisian, but also Low German traditional songs, and do so by pairing it with other popular folk styles.
