Tradition in Motion: Celebrating 30 Years of Traditional Music at Scotland’s National Conservatoire – new freelancer day rate

The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland’s upcoming conference, Tradition in Motion: Celebrating 30 Years of Traditional Music at Scotland’s National Conservatoire, takes place from Tuesday 31 March to Thursday 2 April 2026 in Glasgow

The conference are delighted to be welcoming degree founder Jo Miller as keynote speaker, as well as those who have had similar impacts on traditional music in higher education, such as Mark Sheridan and Alistair Anderson. They will also be joined by friends from across European folk music, with speakers and performers from Ireland, Sweden, Finland, Norway, and more.  Since registration fees for academic conferences can often be prohibitive without institutional affiliations and support, RCS is happy to offer a reduced rate of £75 for the daytime events to alumni, freelancers, enthusiasts, and all supporters of Scottish music, available via the following link: https://forms.office.com/e/Rst3B4KuAi

The conference marks three decades since the founding of the BA (Scottish Music) at Scotland’s national conservatoire — a landmark moment for traditional music in higher education, and a rare opportunity to reflect on where the tradition has come from and where it’s heading.
