Trad Music Spotlight: The Poozies

Hands Up for Trad’s Trad Music Spotlight is a monthly feature on a band or solo artist. It was first launched in February 2015 and features musicians who are working in the trad scene – both in Scotland and around the world. We asked The Poozies a few questions.

What’s happening?
We are just about to release our new album ‘Into the Well’. We did a seventeen night pre-release tour last month to promote it (and sell pre-release copies), which went really well with great audiences and lots of good times on the road. We are getting some great reviews and lots of interest from radio and magazines.

Front-coverWhen was the band formed?
The band was formed in 1991, so it’s the 25th anniversary next year!

What excites you about performing Scottish music?
There is an energy and excitement about Scottish music that’s hard to beat. We have always played a diverse range of music in The Poozies but Scottish tunes remain the most popular, not only with us but to our fans all over the world.

What’s next for you?
Hopefully there will be a flurry of interviews and reviews over the next few weeks as the album makes it’s way out into the world. We’ll be following up with a few summer festivals, then another UK tour towards the end of the year, followed by a tour of Australia.
