Trad music and the Commonwealth Games

Over the period of the Commonwealth Games it was great to hear so much trad music. The opening ceremony featured the Freedom Come All Ye, Julie Fowlis band with Duncan Chisholm and at every medal ceremony you could hear the bagpipes. It was brilliant to see Glasgow embracing its culture and not running away from it. The closing ceremony best bits were all trad as well (in my opinion). Dougie MacLean and Karen Matheson grounded the ceremony and showed the strength of our culture. Outside the stadiums traditional music featured on all the main stages as well.

This is the Scotland I would like to see. A nation proud of its culture, willing to embrace everybody else’s culture as well and truly international in its outlook.
