The North Atlantic Fiddle Convention (NAFCo) is an international festival and academic conference celebrating the many styles of fiddle playing and associated dance traditions that exist around the North Atlantic – the largest event of its kind in the UK.
As a travelling event, first held in 2001, NAFCo has been a meeting place for artists, academics and audiences to celebrate different cultures, as well as innovation in tradition.
Having previously taken place in Aberdeen, Northern Ireland and North America, it sees audiences, musicians and dancers travelling from around the world.
From 11-15 July 2018, NAFCo will return to Aberdeen, with a packed programme of more than 150 events, including interactive workshops, concerts, interviews, talks, academic papers, film screenings, exhibits, busking, and live-music sessions, featuring over 60 artists representing a variety of fiddle traditions from Scotland, Ireland, England, Wales, Scandinavia, Spain, Canada, USA and beyond.
NAFCo visitors can enjoy a concert, an intimate showcase by candlelight, or kick up their heels at a village ceilidh or the family-friendly Festival club – there will be something for everyone.
Not just confined to Aberdeen, events will also take place at a number of locations around Aberdeenshire, including Banchory, Methlick, Braemar, Fraserburgh, Garlogie, Glenbuchat, Huntly, Banff and Arbuthnott.
