Hello,
The Scottish Classical Sustainability Group has asked me to forward information about their International Travel Survey, in the hope that this can be shared widely with musicians of all genres working in the UK.
International touring is a key part of the music industry. It’s shares brilliant work and enables cultural exchange. But it’s also one of the industry’s biggest sources of carbon emissions.
How do we balance these things? The Scottish Classical Sustainability Group wants to hear directly from musicians working in all genres across the UK – how often they travel internationally, what works for them, and what doesn’t? What do they want international touring to look like in future?
They have put together a survey for musicians to share their thoughts, and have asked that the survey be shared with musicians through industry networks. The survey only takes 5-10 minutes to complete. The survey is open from Wednesday 10 July – Thursday 31 October 2024.

Using the survey responses, the Scottish Classical Sustainability Group will publish a report reflecting the current state of international touring. This will be shared across the industry and with funders. They want to inform how they can maintain international cultural exchange whilst taking better care of the planet.
The Scottish Classical Sustainability Group is a group of 30+ classical music organisations and individuals based in Scotland. But they want to hear the thoughts of musicians working in other genres and places too. All responses will be anonymised and data won’t be shared more widely.
