We’re delighted to share this special video celebrating 20 years of the Scottish Traditional Music Hall of Fame. Host David Francis sits down with photographer Louis DeCarlo for an intimate conversation about two decades of capturing the faces and stories of Scotland’s traditional music legends. The film is made by Martin Forry.
Since the Hall of Fame’s launch at the Scots Trad Music Awards in December 2005, Louis has been there every step of the way, photographing each year’s inductees. His journeys have taken him across Scotland and beyond – including a memorable trip to Ireland where he met the late, great Paddy Moloney.
But Louis’s work goes far beyond simply taking photographs. His warm approach and genuine passion for the music have made meeting Louis a highlight of the induction experience itself. Inductees consistently tell us that their portrait session with Louis was “one of the best parts” of being honored.
In this conversation, Louis shares captivating stories from behind the lens – the personal moments, the laughter, the music, and the extraordinary lives of the Hall of Fame members who have dedicated themselves to Scottish traditional music.
