DAY 1

MORNING

◾Introducing basic concepts: pitch, beat and rhythm

◾Basic units of simple time: crotchet, quaver, crotchet rest

◾The pentatonic scale: reading and singing la, so and mi

◾How to organise music-staves, time signatures and bar lines

AFTERNOON

◾Extending the pentatonic scale: do, re, mi, so and la

◾Extending rhythmic knowledge to include longer note values: minim, dotted minim, semibreve

◾How to read and compose simple pentatonic melodies

DAY 2

MORNING

◾Review of the pentatonic scale structure

◾Introduction to the pentachord and hexachord structures with new note fa

◾Shorter rhythmic values: semiquavers and combinations of quavers and semiquavers

◾Introducing absolute pitch

AFTERNOON

◾The full diatonic scale with new note ti

◾Introducing key signatures

◾Dotted rhythms-the dotted crotchet and dotted quaver

◾Brief introduction to the minor scale
