Oban Gaelic Choir are about to embark on the final part of their length to length tour of Scotland celebrating 130 years of singing in the community of Oban & Lorn.
The tour started with a special concert at Iona Abbey to a packed audience in September, before we took a break to get ready for the National Mod in Perth in October. It turned out to be the perfect way to celebrate at the National Mod in Perth in October where we retained the prestigious Lovat & Tullibardine Shield for a 2nd consecutive year, amongst other successes.
The tour continues in Glasgow at Kingsborough Gardens Sanctuary in Hyndland on Saturday 19th November, 7pm. We then head north up the A9 to Inverness for a concert at Inverness Cathedral on Sunday 20th November, 2pm. Lastly we will be performing to a local audience and friends at St John’s Cathedral, Oban on 26th November 7pm. Tickets are available at www.ticketsource.co.uk/obangaelicchoir
The choir was formed in 1892 making it the oldest Gaelic choir in Scotland, and has been performing ever since. It performs across the United Kingdom and beyond with recent trips to sing and compete in Ireland, Italy and Estonia spreading the riches of Gaelic culture, as well as promoting Oban and Argyll to the world.
The choir meet every Monday evening at The Rockfield Centre and we are always keen to encourage new members to come along. You don’t need to be a speaker of Gaelic. You just need to enjoy singing and a new challenge. So come along and see us perform and if you like it then get along to one of our Monday night practices.
