Hands Up for Trad has always been careful in handling and protecting your data. We believe you have every right to know why we need it and for how long we will keep it.
The only direct marketing we do, using Mailchimp, is informing you of news connected to Hands Up for Trad and the Scottish traditional music scene through our weekly electronic newsletters that can also be viewed online. We try hard not to bombard you with marketing e-mails and you always have the option to unsubscribe from any such e-mail and receive no more thereafter. We also never, ever share your data with third parties. Data is also held and processed for other reasons. You may be a Event attendee (eg Tinto Summer School, Distil, Scotland Sings etc), one of our tutors or a press organisation that we want to highlight our events to.
With a new law coming into effect on the 25 May 2018 – the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) – in common with most data handlers we will have a duty to ensure total transparency over the use of your personal data. Therefore we are making some changes that will ensure you are always clear on how your data is being used.
We have updated our Data Protection Policy and this will be published, alongside a clear Fair Processing Notice, on our website before the GDPR comes into force in May. This will help you understand how we use your personal information and for what purpose. We are devising an online tool that will help you, and us, manage your personal data. We will let you know when it is ready and then you can update your personal preferences.
You do not have to do anything right now and we will send a further e-mail closer to the GDPR implementation date. We don’t want to lose anyone who may have an interest in our work, but if you do not want to receive any further information from us, please unsubscribe using the link at the bottom of email.
