Musical Director: Cunninghame Choir

Cunninghame Choir is seeking to appoint a new Musical Director (MD) to succeed Robin Versteeg who is stepping down after 9 years.

Cunninghame Choir is a friendly and enthusiastic mixed-voice choir based in Beith in North Ayrshire, Scotland. Established in 1978, this non-audition amateur choir has around 35 members and has enjoyed performing a variety of works from traditional to contemporary, sacred and secular, folk, blues, gospel as well as works by the choral masters.

The choir rehearses on Wednesday evenings, 7.30-9.30pm, at Beith Community Centre from early September until May and performs 2 concerts per year (12 weeks rehearsing for Nov/Dec concert and 18 weeks rehearsing for the annual May concert, which usually involves more challenging works for choir, soloist/s and instrumental/orchestral accompaniment).

An enthusiastic, dedicated and imaginative conductor is sought to motivate, teach and inspire the choir on this next phase of its development. A high level of musical ability and commitment to plan a schedule of music are pre-requisites along with a wide knowledge of choral repertoire. The MD will be required to work closely with our accompanist, Maciej Granat, and liaise, collaborate with, and appoint musicians and soloists for individual concerts.

Remuneration is negotiable but will comprise a set fee per rehearsal (30+) and a set fee per concert (2), which will cover repertoire research/development, musician/soloist appointments, preparation of programme notes and each performance.

As part of the application process, short-listed candidates will be invited to work with the choir for part of a rehearsal ahead of a shortened, repeat performance of the May concert that will be part of Glasgow’s West End Festival in June. This is not a regular fixture in the choir’s calendar.

Further information about the choir, its history, repertoire and personnel can be found at www.cunninghame-choir.org.uk.

Please apply to Janet Barr, President, by email (janetkbarr@yahoo.com) or by post to Morven, 53 Kings Road, BEITH, North Ayrshire, KA15 2BJ, including your CV, showing how you meet the requirements for this post, your relevant experience and aspirations for our choral journey along with details of two references.

Location: North Ayrshire

The deadline is Monday 16 May 2016 at 16:00.
