Irish Minstrels Winter School 20-22nd January, Glasgow

Don’t miss this brilliant series of workshops with loads of amazing tutors.

WINTER SCHOOL: 20-22nd January. Concert is on Friday 20th at 7pm in Hutchesons’ Grammar School, Beaton Road G41 4NW. We have a  star-studded lineup which will include our tutors and all our own young musicians, in three separate bands: beginners, intermediate and advanced. Admission is £6 (adults) and £2 (children), with a family maximum of £16. Payment by cash or card. Please note there is no bar.

WORKSHOPS: Will be held on Saturday and Sunday, 11-1pm and 2-4pm in St. Aloysius College. These are not suitable for beginners, except for concertina. The cost is £12 per double class, £20 for 4 classes and family max £50. Payment and registration should be done (soon) on the branch website www.glasgowirishminstrels.com .  Packed lunches will be required and parents of U12’s should supervise their children during the lunch break.

TUTORS

FIDDLE: Rosie Ferguson (Newry), Theresa Kavanagh (Donegal), Maggie Maguire (Fermanagh), Eugene McKenna (Tyrone).
BUTTON ACC: Chris Maguire (Fermanagh)  PIANO ACC: Willie Paterson (Glasgow).
BANJO: George Macadam (Monaghan)  CONCERTINA: Colm McGonigle (Belfast).
UILLEAN PIPES (Sunday only): Simon McKerrell (Glasgow)
WHISTLE (Sunday only): Rory Stark (East Kilbride). This class is for those who started new instruments recently, not the present whistle classes.
FLUTE: Carl Docherty (Donegal), Tiernan Courrell (Sligo)

SESSION: This will take place in St. Columbkille’s on Saturday night (with a bar). 7pm for the younger ones, 8-ish for the older ones. Admission free.

We are very lucky to have such top-class musicians for the weekend. Check them out on Youtube. The branch heavily subsidises the weekend, so please give it your full support.
