We’re excited to launch the newest part of Distil: Distil Beta Sessions – a new space for musicians to try out ideas and experiment with their music.
What are Beta Sessions?
Beta Sessions is like a music playground. It’s a friendly place where musicians can test new songs, try different sounds, and explore creative ideas without worrying about being perfect. Here, it’s totally fine if things don’t sound amazing – that’s the whole point.
Whether you want to try a new song, experiment with a different style, or work with other musicians, Beta Sessions gives you the space to do it without pressure. You can play for up to 15 minutes.
The Idea
In the tech world, “beta” means testing something new – trying things out before they’re finished. We’re bringing that idea to live music. This isn’t about perfect performances. It’s about the exciting process of creating something new.
At Beta Sessions:
- Musicians can try new things in a supportive space
- Audiences get to see creativity happening
- Working together and trying things out is encouraged
- The fun is in discovering what works
Our First Session

Scottish Music Centre
Afternoon
Come and join us for our very first Beta Session. It’ll be an afternoon of real musical discovery, where creativity flows and unexpected things can happen. We are trying to keep it as acoustic as possible so please do not submit ideas that need big PAs.
Want to Take Part?
Ready to give it a try? Whether you want to test new songs, work with other musicians, or just be part of a creative community that celebrates trying new things, we’d love to have you. NB you need to bring your own musicians to take part.
If you’d like to take part in Distil Beta Sessions, please fill in the form below.
Beta Sessions joins Distil Residential, Distil Rehearsal Room, and Distil Meet-ups – all designed to support musicians in different ways. Thanks to Creative Scotland for their support.
