Hands Up for Trad #womenintrad Twitter Chat

We had a great Twitter chat last Thursday on International Women’s Day. Below is a quick summary of some of the chat but please visit Twitter and the hashtag #womenintrad for the complete discussion.

It’s not just #womenintrad that need to address these issues it’s #menintrad too πŸ™‚ equality is good for everyone

I think it takes people involved at all levels of event management to be aware of the choices they’re making – making concious decisions to diversify their programming, and being aware of the marketing choices they make. Being aware can make a huge difference! #womenintrad

I feel there are still so many people out there who genuinely don’t believe there’s an issue with equality at all, because ‘they haven’t seen examples of it’. It is very difficult to provide concrete examples of unconscious bias. #womenintrad

When the @BITcollective1 had their first meet-up in Apr ’17 we discussed many issues relating to gender & trad. Here’s a map of some of the points discussed. #womenintrad

Listening without judging or offering an opinion is a start. Letting people explain themselves and actively trying to understand, without dismissing their thoughts. Everyone is worried about being attacked. It’s such a fiery subject for people. #womenintrad

Having the vocabulary to push ourselves to voice our concerns and answer questions clearly is really helpful. However, I don’t want to sound like I’m placing all responsibility on women! Men – Listen! Believe! Think! Try some empathy! (sorry-not-sorry to generalise) #womenintrad

I’d love to see more women producers. The recording scene is so male dominated, so how about a mentoring scheme for female producers.
