The Dunoon Burgh Hall provided a great venue for last weekend’s inaugural Scottish music workshop. Organised by the Cowal Fiddle Workshop, players came from far and wide to learn from three masters of their crafts – Alistair McCulloch (fiddle), Mark Duff ( whistles) and Aaron Jones (guitar).
The days were spent learning to improve play and acquire new techniques culminating in Dunoon’s first ‘Traditional Music Orchestra’ when all the musicians came together, directed by the tutors, to play what they had been practising in their individual groups.
On Friday night, the back room of MacClure’s bar resounded to the sound of a great jamming session, as participants relaxed over a drink or two. On Saturday night, the tutors, otherwise known as the Alistair McCulloch trio, gave an outstanding concert in the Burgh Hall to showcase their new CD, ‘Off the Hook.’
All agreed that the weekend was a tremendous success and found Dunoon ‘very welcoming’ and the Burgh Hall a ‘superb’ venue.
Diary date for 2019: 12th to 14th July in Dunoon’s Burgh Hall!
