Confusion as 70-year-old Aly Bain awarded Young Fiddler of the Year title

This is funny (and topical)! Read more at Shetland’s Da Bonxie

CLICKIMIN – There was confusion at the Shetland Young Fiddler of the Year awards at the weekend when 70-year-old Aly Bain was given the top award.

Confused applause rang out across the hall when event host Tavish Scott read out the septuagenarian’s name. Bain rushed to the stage to collect the most coveted musical title in Shetland, only for the audience to be informed that there had been a mix-up.

The embarrassing misunderstanding saw the previously gleeful Bain having to trudge off the stage empty handed as real winner John Tait, who is 12 and from Bixter, collected the prize.

Organisers said the mishap occurred after flustered presenter Tavish Scott was given an envelop that read “La La Land” and so said the name of the only fiddler he’d heard of.
