QMU are offering £2200 bursaries to support selected cultural organisations in offering CPD opportunities to their existing team. While the remaining fees (£1100 for each of the two years) can be paid by the organisation or student, the organisation must commit to supporting their staff member through allowing them to attend campus one day a week for both of the two 12 week semesters each year. This is an excellent opportunity for arts and cultural organisations to support a team member in gaining a higher level qualification in their field. Investing in staff development in this manner is not only valuable for the skills it builds, its contribution towards organisational sustainability, but also for retaining staff who see the investment in their development as recognition of the degree to which they are valued by their employers.
Eligible organisations are:
– Those receiving Creative Scotland regular funding
– Members of the Federation of Scottish Theatre
– Members of Museums Galleries Scotland
Culture and creativity is one of QMU’s academic flagships and we have been offering postgraduate courses in arts management for over 15 years. This course, the only one of its kind in Scotland, has been developed in response to these changes and is rooted in a belief that great leaders in the cultural sector will recognise the value of effective management while acknowledging that approaches may need to be adapted to meet the particularities of cultural organisations and festivals. Through encouraging students to become critically reflective arts management professionals, the course will develop their knowledge of the contemporary issues affecting the management of arts organisations and festivals while equipping them with the practical management skills that are essential for both developing their career in the sector and the sustainability of the organisations they work for.
In addition, those students receiving the bursary will undertake either a piece of research or the development of a strategic plan specifically relevant and tailored to their own organisation for their final dissertation – thus ensuring their academic study is clearly tied to its application in their workplace.
Modules include:
• Financial Management and Strategy
• Fundraising and Development for Cultural Organisations
• Managing Cultural Projects and Festivals
• Marketing Cultural Organisations and Festivals
• People Management, Governance and Law
Location: All Scotland
