Battle of the Folk Bands 2024: James Bauld trio

James Bauld trio have reached the finals of Battle of The Folk Bands 2024. The competition will be held at Celtic Connections on January 20th in the Drygate Brewery at 1pm. Why not come along and join in the fun?

We asked James a few questions about the band.

Tell us about your band

James Bauld hails from the Gaelic tradition and oral culture of the Scottish Highlands. Since studying at the National Centre of Excellence for Traditional Music and graduating from the Applied Music course at the University of the Highlands and Islands, James is gaining reputation as a performer, Neo-Trad composer and an ambassador for the modern voice of Scottish Traditional flute. James released his debut album ‘Where I belong’ in March earlier this year showcasing the wooden flute, which features new compositions by James that explore themes of travel, finding where you feel accepted, and how you make your own home wherever you choose. The album follows James’ self-titled EP which was released in 2020.

Who are the band members
James Bauld – Flute/Whistle
Dan Brown – Piano
Caetano Pelletti – Guitar

What are you hopes and aspirations for the band?
To continue composing and arranging music both for live performance and studio recording. Promote the wooden flute in Scotland and help create a repertoire of tunes specifically composed for the instrument.
