It was very sad to hear last week of the passing of great singer and educator Anne Neilson. Anne was introduced to traditional music in 1957 at the second meeting of the late Norman Buchan’s ‘Ballads Club’ in Rutherglen Academy, one of the most vital of the crucibles in which the Scottish Folk revival was forged. She worked with, taught and supported many students from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland who thought she was amazing which you could see by the many tributes paid to her on social media. Anne was a big supporter of the BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician Award and regularly attended the semi-finals and finals of the event. She will be very much missed by many people.
