Summer Isles Festival – August 2016 Business Limelight of the Month

Summer Isles Festival are the thirty-seventh recipients of Hands Up for Trad’s Business Limelight Award. The “Limelight’s” are a monthly initiative (launched in October 2012) that recognises the outstanding contributions made by businesses and organisations who contribute, shape and influence the arts and cultural sector in Scotland today. Summer Isles Festival is an annual popular festival that promotes local Summer Isles music and culture.

We asked Mairearad Green of Summer Isles Festival the following questions.

What is your principal company activity?
We aim to celebrate our community, our enthusiasm and our cultural identity, through top quality music, local food produce, arts and crafts.

When and where did the company first start trading?
The first ever Summer Isles Festival was started in 2012 and is set in the village of Achiltibuie in the North West of Scotland.

What made you want to work in Scottish culture?
Scotland’s culture is what makes us who we are, giving us such a strong sense of identity which is so attractive to visitors from around the World. It is important to have events across Scotland that celebrate and showcase this culture which has been huge motivation for setting up a festival that provides a platform in order to do this.

logo-2Can you tell us of any particular company highlights?
The line up is always the main attraction to the festival, this year including Peatbog Fairies, Blazin’ Fiddles, Blue Rose Code and Tannara. We also host a range of exciting fringe events during the day including cookery demonstrations showcasing local produce, local food stalls, music and art workshops and we also have circus act for the first time this year.

What are your company’s plans for the future?
The festival plans to always offer a top quality line up attracting visitors from around the world and to continue to work with the community to promote all that is great about the area.

How will you celebrate receiving Hands Up for Trad’s Business Limelight award?
Receiving this award will be such a huge boost to us in our 5th year running the event. We are very proud of what the festival has achieved in such a small number of years and recognition from this award will be a fantastic opportunity to use in all our festival publicity. We will celebrate by being inspired to keep working hard to make each year a success for the community of Achiltibuie and for visitors to the area.
