McElhinney & Co – October 2017 Business Limelight of the Month

McElhinney & Co are the recipients of Hands Up for Trad’s Business Limelight Award. The “Limelight’s” are a monthly initiative (launched in October 2012) that recognises the outstanding contributions made by businesses and organisations who contribute, shape and influence the arts and cultural sector in Scotland today. McElhinney & Co are an amazing firm of accountants who care about people and have a sense of assisting individuals and groups to make a difference, supporting them on their journey.

We asked Derek McElhinney of McElhinney & Co the following questions.

What is your principal company activity?
We are a firm of Chartered Certified Accountants with a very strong background in tax matters. We assist businesses with annual income levels from £0 to £10m. We pride ourselves in supporting business owners and managers with all business matters and with the aim of assisting them to continuously improve and achieve greater goals.

When and where did the company first start trading?
The company commenced in June 2009 in Glasgow.

What made you want to work in Scottish culture?
The initial attraction was the people working in this area; they really stood out. Later came a sense of assisting individuals and groups to make a difference, supporting them on their journey.

Can you tell us of any particular company highlights?
We moved to larger offices during 2016 which was a great feeling of achievement.

What are your company’s plans for the future?
Slow and steady growth which will support our view of supporting the individuals and businesses we work with in the first instance as opposed to focusing on those we don’t.

How will you celebrate receiving Hands Up for Trad’s Business Limelight award?
With whisky at the Scottish Traditional Music Hall of Fame Dinner.
