We asked Iona of Iona Fyfe Band a few questions about the band.

Tell us about your band

Formed in 2016, the band encapsulate the essence of Aberdeenshire folksong – interpreting source material in a contemporary style. Combining soaring vocals with border pipes, fiddle, whistles, piano, guitar and double bass, the band provide haunting ballads contrasted with driving sets. Fronted by Iona, a student at The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, the band have performed at many clubs and festivals in the UK aswell as Folkest International Folk Festival in Italy and have released a debut EP East to great acclaim.

“From unaccompanied voice to the band in full-flow, ‘East’ stands as a testament to the strength, endurance and adaptability of the tradition.” – FolkWords

“When it comes to folk music, she has one of the most stunning voices on the circuit today.” – Artree

Who are the band members
Iona Fyfe – vocals / piano

Luc McNally – guitar / vocals

Callum Cronin – double bass

Charlie Grey – fiddle

Ross Miller – whistles and pipes

What are you hopes and aspirations for the band?
2017 has been a busy year so far with a spring tour which saw the band play at various clubs and venues across the country, from Aberdeenshire to St Albans in London. We will be performing at festivals in the summer including Stonehaven Folk Festival and Sark Folk Festival. We will be heading out on a short tour in November ahead of the release of a debut album which is set to be released January 2018. of Some trips abroad in the pipeline too!
