Adam Gibb presented with David Roberts Memorial Plate

IMG_3649Hands Up for Trad announced the David Roberts Memorial Plate in memory of David Roberts, an early supporter of the BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician Award. The Award celebrates young traditional musicians in the Lanarkshire area who are doing really well and making a name for themselves. In 2014 we are very happy to present this award to Adam Gibb of Biggar.

Adam started playing at the accordion at the age of 8 under the wing of Keith Dickson. He always wanted to play the accordion after following his older brother around to various competitions and events. As well as accordion Adam started playing the piano at the age of 11 so he would be able to accompany other people and have more opportunities to perform!

Highlights in his career include playing at T in the Park twice as part of KODA, an accordion orchestra lead by Keith Dickson, and various sucessful trips to competitions across Scotland and England including perth and Blackpool and meeting new people at these events. In the future he hopes to continue to do well at these competitions, and also to play more gigs and different venues!

This is award is presented at the semi-finals of the BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician Award. To read more about this award click here.
