World Pipe Band Champions 2019 – Inveraray and District

The 2019 championship season climaxed with the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow.

2019 saw 195 pipe bands bringing around 8000 pipers and drummers from New Zealand, Australia, Canada, Austria, Switzerland, Eire, USA, Belgium, England, Spain, Malaysia, Northern Ireland and Scotland take part. Over 30,000 people attended over two days to watch the championships.

In the premier Grade 1 event, it took Friday and Saturday, two MSR performances, two Medley performances and sixteen adjudicators to crown Inveraray and District from Scotland the 2019 World Champions. Pipe Major Stuart Liddell lifting the trophy for the second time in three years.

Ian Embelton, Chief Executive of the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association said: “The World Pipe Band Championships is the event all the bands work towards and they have once again excelled. The competition continues to drive the highest standards and everyone who came to watch and listen has enjoyed some brilliant performances. Thanks to the bands, the spectators and to everyone who came.”

The Adult Drum Major title was won by Jason Paguio from Simon Fraser University – Canada. Kathy Hunter from Manorcunningham won the Juvenile grade in her first season, Kathy also lifted the Champion of Champions title. Benjamin Walker from Joseph Forde Memorial won the Junior grade.
