Showcase Scotland Expo

Showcase_Expo_logo emailableShowcase Scotland expo is offering an opportunity to Scottish artists to Showcase internationally. Three opportunities exist. All of this activity has been made possible by Creative Scotland who we would like to thank for their support.

  • The ECMA’s – The Eastern Canadian Music Alliance 2nd April to 4 April 2014.
  • The Visit – 30 April – 4 May 2014
  • AWME – Australasian World Musc Expo 20 – 23 November

ECMA’s – Showcase Scotland Expo have negotiated a memorandum of understanding with the ECMA’s, this will see Scottish artists showcasing at the event for the next three years. Two or three artists will be selected to perform in front of delegates from North America as part of a Scottish reception and also the festival itself.

The Visit – 50 North American Festivals and agents will visit Scotland between the 30th of April and 4th of May. They will see concerts from Scottish artists in Paisley Abbey, Mull Theatre, An Tobar Mull and The Queens Hall Edinburgh. Each ‘delegate’ has agreed to book a minimum of two artists from the trip.. A public audience will also exist for some of the concerts.

AWME – For the third year Scottish artists will be given an opportunity to perform at AWME in Melbourne, this has to date been immensely successful and artists perform in front of delegates from Asia and The Pacific Rim. Artists will be provided with a small fee from AWME and funding towards the cost of flights and accommodation to Australia will be provided by Showcase Scotland Expo. Artists are responsible for visa costs and applications procedures.

How it works
Each artist will be selected from a shortlist compiled by a panel of Music Industry specialists from Scotland. The final selection will be by the festival or promoter producing the concert, so the ECMA’s, venues involved with the Visit and AWME will have the final say.
Artists will be paid a small fee for their showcase by the hosting event and funding will be provided by Showcase Scotland Expo towards the cost of hotels and flights in Canada and Australia.

Who can apply
All artists based in Scotland can apply. These events are for traditional, world, folk and acoustic music and so we seek applicants from those genres.

Criteria
The criteria is that the artists are business ready. This means that they are positioned to take full advantage of the opportunities presented. They should be professional musicians with a track record of success. It is preferable, although not essential that they have management or agency in place. They should have released at least one album and be able to evidence favourable reviews and press coverage.
Artists can apply for all three opportunities and will not be penalised for doing so.

How to apply
Download the application forms above and fill in by January the 31st For more info contact info@activeevents.org.uk or call Lisa on 0141 337 2062.
