The Scottish Borders Cultural Forum supports the work of the local cultural sector by creating a space for networking, sharing concerns, ideas and resources and finding solutions to common problems. It comes together informally on a monthly basis in different locations linked to a key cultural event in the area and provides a social get together, a discussion, and a lively cultural experience.
Following on from two very enjoyable and productive meetings in August and September; this sixth gathering of the Forum ties in with Selkirk WASPS annual open studios on 1st and 2nd October. The open studios include art workshops, talks and music as well as an exhibition of the work of the resident artists. The resident artists exhibiting at the open studios are Fiona Millar, Jim Douglas, Liz Douglas, Rob Hain, Kerry Jones, John Berry, Moy Mackay, Joy Parker, Colin Philip, Alan Richmond, Alex Hain and Mary Morrison.
There is no formal agenda for Cultural Forum gatherings, with the discussion being driven by those attending and it is a chance to meet, exchange and share information and focus on particular topics which emerge. The meeting will begin with a short presentation from Fergus Watson, Tourism Business Adviser at Business Gateway. Fergus will talk about his role at Business Gateway, how he supports businesses and examples of projects which have been developed over the last year. Mary Morrison, in her role as a WASPS Artist, will talk about the WASPS Studios, the community of artists there and the impact on them of having a shared space. She will also talk about the programme for the Open Studios and will give a tour of the exhibition in place. A 3rd presentation will be confirmed shortly.
