New Board Members, a new Chair and a new Projects and Operations Manager
The SMIA is delighted to welcome 4 new Directors to our Board: Blake Hutchinson (International Senior Executive for Scottish Development International), Tim Brinkhurst (Soulpunk Management and Production), Sharon Mair (Editor Radio, Music, Events and Partnerships for BBC Scotland) and Gillian Henderson (Director of Business Development (North) for Ticketmaster and Ticketweb).
With such great new additions, we are looking forward to continuing to work with our members to strengthen and champion Scotland’s music industry.
As announced at our AGM in April, Dougal Perman has taken over from Stewart Henderson as Chair of our board. We’d like to thank Stewart for all of his hard work over the last 5 years, going above and beyond to help drive the SMIA forward. Read Stewart’s farewell letter here.
We’d also like to say a special thanks to Caroline Cooper, who after 7 years as Manager of the SMIA, is now moving on to become the PR Manager for RHA. Replacing Caroline as Projects and Operations Manager is Robert Kilpatrick. Congratulations Caroline and all the best for the future.
Hello from our new Chair, Dougal Perman
Sharing our membership’s passion for working together to develop and enhance music businesses in Scotland, I am delighted to take on the role of Chair of the Scottish Music Industry Association. I took over from Stewart Henderson at the SMIA’s AGM in April. Stewart has been a dynamic force at the Association and has propelled us forward, leading the development of the Scottish Album of the Year Award, seeking to connect different arms of the industry and championing Scottish music wherever possible. I will continue his great work, with the support of our strong board and new Projects and Operations Manager, Robert.
I’d like to say a special thank you to Caroline Cooper too. As Manager of the SMIA for the past seven years, Caroline has been tirelessly enthusiastic, energetic and dedicated. We all wish her very well in her new role at RHA and know she’ll keep in touch. We’re all very pleased to welcome Robert Kilpatrick on board. Robert, the rest of the board of directors and I are keen to engage with our membership as much as possible. We will ask for your input on key matters and facilitate as much interaction as possible. Working together we can all appeal to those of us working directly in music, nurture relationships with other industries, demonstrate value and explore trade opportunities. We will be inclusive, forward-thinking and outward-looking. I look forward to working with you.
Dougal Perman, Chair, Scottish Music Industry Association
Farewell from Caroline Cooper
After a wonderful 7 years at The SMIA, I’ve decided it’s time to tackle a new challenge and let someone else take the reins. I ‘m really appreciative to have been given the chance to manage the organisation and I’m proud of what we’ve been able to achieve in that time.
In uncertain times and an ever changing cultural landscape I believe that The SMIA is more relevant than ever. Brining Scotland’s music industry together as a united voice will always be a challenging task but the SMIA will continue to work tirelessly to strengthen networks, support musical endeavour in Scotland and champion our industry internationally.
