The National Library of Scotland holds the largest collection of printed music in Scotland, with over 300,000 items acquired over three centuries of collecting, including legal deposit. The Library is now beginning a project to retro-convert the historical manual catalogues of this material, with the aim of making all its holdings of printed music discoverable through the main online catalogue. This work forms part of the Library’s strategic objective to have all its collections discoverable online by 2025.
The Library is looking for a Project Officer to plan and develop this project through its initial start-up phase, who will combine an expert knowledge of music cataloguing with project management experience. In particular we are looking for experience with digitisation projects as the retro-conversion will involve the digitisation of the manual catalogues and the conversion of the information held in them to electronic format.
The successful applicant should be available to take up the appointment by early-mid November 2016.
The closing date for applications is 16 September 2016. It is anticipated that interviews will be held in the week commencing 26 September 2016.
