“Lindsay System” Scottish Smallpipes Chanter Competition

Composers of music, of all backgrounds and nationalities, are warmly invited to present an original piece of music for performance on a newly invented musical instrument – the “Lindsay System” Scottish Smallpipes Chanter.

The piece can be of any length, and should be suitable for solo performance, accompanied by the pipes’ own drones on “A”.

The Competition winner will be announced in October 2015. First prize is a choice of £150, or a Lindsay System Chanter fitted with a cane reed. Specially designed, 3D printed trophies will be awarded to the winner and runners up.

Stylistically, there are no limits. Strathspeys, Reels, Marches are very welcome. Contemporary music of any kind is equally so. The music should be original, submitted by the composer, and should not be released or publicly performed in any other form (including via social media) before the winner of the competition has been announced in October.

When recording the piece for submission, feel free to use any instrument with a suitable range, although bear in mind if using instruments such as piano or guitar, that the pipes will play a single melody line only.

Given the suitability of Scottish Smallpipes for accompanying song, entries of songs will be accepted as well as instrumentals. In this case, the score should include the vocal melody, and a note of the words while the Mp3 should include a singer as well as a solo instrument.

Entries should be sent by email to competition@lindstruments.com
