Gaelic language play: commission and production, The National Theatre Of Scotland

The National Theatre of Scotland in partnership with A Play, A Pie and A Pint, MG ALBA and BBC ALBA, supported by Bòrd na Gàidhlig, are pleased to announce an exciting new stage play commission and production opportunity.

We are inviting proposals for a new Gaelic language play or existing unproduced Gaelic language play, which fit the following criteria, for a commission and production at Òran Mòr’s A Play, A Pie and A Pint, in spring 2017.

Guidelines
• The play must be inspired by the word: Miann/Desire
• It can be any genre: drama, comedy drama etc… but please refer to the information on A Play, A Pie and A Pint below
• The play must be between 45-50mins in playing length
• For up to 3 performers
• The selected play/proposal, will be commissioned in July 2016, for production in the week commencing 20th February 2017 . Rehearsals begin w/c 30 January 2017
• Deadline for submissions is midnight on June 30th 2016

The selected play/proposal will be co-commissioned by the National Theatre of Scotland and MG ALBA, securing stage rights for the National Theatre of Scotland and including an enhanced fee to secure broadcast media rights.

Making a Submission
Proposals/plays should be submitted as a Word document to MG ALBA by email to Fiona MacKenzie on fiona.mackenzie@mgalba.com

Please include:
• A proposal (max one side of A4) in Gaelic with an English translation for a new Gaelic Language play inspired by the word: Miann/ Desire. (We will also accept proposals for plays already written, but un-produced, that fit the criteria. Where this applies, please also submit the play)
• Writing CV
• A 10 page sample of your writing in Gaelic and English.

A Play, A Pie and A Pint
Please also bear in mind that your play is being considered as part of A Play, A Pie and A Pint 2017 spring season and so your idea should be a fit for the theatre. A Play, A Pie and A Pint is well-known for its huge variety in terms of output but the plays that often do the best usually have at least two out of three of the following: humour, heart and something to say!

Location: All Scotland

For further information, please contact fiona.mackenzie@mgalba.com (Fiona Mackenzie), or visit https://www.nationaltheatrescotland.com/content/default.asp?page=s659_7_5

The deadline is Thursday 30 June 2016 at 23:55.
