Fèis Phàislig is thrilled to announce the winner of the competition to compose the official soundtrack for this year’s Royal National Mòd. From a competitive field of entries, a distinguished panel of judges, including renowned Scottish traditional musicians Alistair Paterson, Jenna Reid, and Scott Wood, has selected ‘Fàilte gu Pàislig‘ (Welcome to Paisley) by Alan Murray as the winning composition.

‘Fàilte gu Pàislig’ serves as a warm welcome to Paisley and Renfrewshire, paying tribute to the ever-growing Gaelic arts and traditional music scene here. This lively jig captures the spirit and excitement surrounding the upcoming Royal National Mòd, ten years since it last visited the town.

James Graham, Chief Executive of An Comunn Gàidhealach, the organising body behind the Royal National Mòd, praised the selection, stating, “Alan Murray’s ‘Fàilte gu Pàislig’ is a fitting musical representation of this year’s Mòd in Paisley. It sets the perfect tone for what promises to be a remarkable event.”

Alan Murray, the accomplished fiddle player and composer, expressed his gratitude, saying, “It’s a real honour that ‘Fàilte gu Pàislig’ has been chosen as the official soundtrack for Mòd Phàislig this year. I look forward to being there and sharing the music with everyone.”

Fèis Phàislig facilitated the competition as part of its mission to promote traditional music and Gaelic culture within Renfrewshire. The competition was sponsored by Love Local, Love Paisley with Chair of Paisley First, Elaine Templeton, stating; “Love Paisley is proud to support Fèis Phàislig in fostering Paisley’s cultural scene. We congratulate Alan Murray on his brilliant composition which reflects the warm welcome waiting for everyone here in Paisley.”

The official recording of ‘Fàilte gu Pàislig’ is already available for listening. You can enjoy the track by visiting: https://soundcloud.com/feis-phaislig/failte-gu-paislig.  Recorded at Oak Ridge Studios, the track was mixed and mastered by Renfrewshire-born, Scott Wood.

The track will be performed throughout the week of the Mòd, including at ‘Ar Cànan ‘s Ar Ceòl’ (Our Language, Our Music) on Saturday 14th and at ‘Cèilidh Fàilteachais’ (Welcome Cèilidh) on Thursday 19th. More information about these events, including the wider Mòd programme, can be found at https://modphaislig.com.
