BBC Radio Scotland Young Trad Award semi-finalist makes it through to Young Folk Award finals

Katie McfarlaneKatie Macfarlane, a semi-finalist in the BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Music Award has made it through to the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award. Read her thoughts.

I was so happy to find out I was through to the final 10 of BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award. I sent off an application along with a couple of my Soundcloud recordings in October and never expected to have a chance of getting through, but applied as I love listening to the music of the artists that have previously taken part. It just shows that you should always go for any opportunity, even if it seems out of your reach! It will be great to meet bands and artists of all different styles at the Young Folk Award weekend which takes place in Kendal on the 29th-31st of January with workshops and a concert on the Saturday night. I feel so lucky to have been picked and I’m really looking forward to the whole experience.

Good luck Katie!
