Battle of the Folk Bands 2022: The Auldeners

The Auldeners have reached the finals of Battle of The Folk Bands 2022. The competition will be held at Celtic Connections on January 29th in the Drygate Brewery at 1pm. Why not come along and join in the fun? You can buy tickets here.

We asked Ellen of The Auldeners a few questions about the band.

Tell us about your band
The Auldeners are a Glasgow-based trio performing reinterpretations of Appalachian ballads and American old-time tunes featuring Ellen Gira (cello), Iona Fyfe (vocals) and Callum Morton-Teng (mandolin), Their repertoire also spans old Country classics, as well as Irish and Scottish folksongs that have crossed the Atlantic with the settlers emigrating from these areas. In April 2019, they presented this new body of work at a sold-out performance at Aberdeen Music Hall, and have since performed at the Centre for Contemporary Arts in Glasgow and at the Star Folk Club.

What are you hopes and aspirations for the band?

  • Develop repertoire to finish our debut EP
  • Tour both nationally and internationally
  • Continue to engage and connect with new audiences, representing different parts of the folk traditions of Scotland, Ireland and Appalachia.”

Who are the band members
Ellen Gira: cello
Callum Morton-Teng: mandolin
Iona Fyfe: vocals
