Sunday 5th February saw the 23rd BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician Award Finals at Celtic Connections Festival in the City Hall’s Glasgow. 6 finalists (Aidan Moodie, Ailis Sutherland, Amy Laurenson, Madeleine Stewart, Mairi Mcgillivray, Sam Mabbett) competed for the prestigious title and performed to a capacity crowd. Each musician played 15 minutes and were judged on the performance by Gary West, Mark Maguire, Anna Wendy Stevenson, Fiona Hunter and Adam Sutherland. The winner of the competition was pianist Amy Laurenson from Shetland. Watch Amy’s performance below. A special shoutout must go to the amazing accompanists – Jenn Butterworth, Jen Austin and Signy Jakobsdottir who worked really hard to accommodate everyone needs and play brilliantly.
