Duncan’s brand new live album, recorded at the iconic Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, Glasgow during the premier world music festival, Celtic Connections. Interweaving material from the Strathglass Trilogy, embodying Duncan’s personal artistic odyssey through the Highland landscapes where his family roots run seven centuries deep. This performance saw Duncan leading a six-piece traditional band, backed by a 20-strong strings and brass ensemble. The impact was such that the crowd couldn’t wait till the end to deliver its first standing ovation, but leapt to their feet halfway through, impelled by an especially thrilling set of reels. Duncan’s traditional accompanists on this live album; Jarlath Henderson (uilleann pipes / whistles), Matheu Watson (guitar), Allan Henderson (piano / fiddle), Martin O’Neill (bodhran) and Ross Hamilton (bass) represent the cream of today’s Scottish folk scene, while the massed strings and brass are led by renowned genre-busting violinist Greg Lawson (BBC SSO / Moishe’s Bagel). This track is an untitled air.
Duncan Chisholm is one of Scotland’s most recognised and accomplished fiddle players and composers. Born and brought up near Inverness in the Highlands of Scotland, Duncan has spent most of his life developing his unique musical voice which led him to being nominated within the ‘Musician of the Year’ category in the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards 2013. Fiddle playing at its best, Duncan’s feather-light handling of dynamics and ornamentation, allied with his pure-distilled tone, lend his characteristic spine-tingling magic to his music.
