Recorded at the Nunnery in the Isle of Man in 2014, “The Grackle” consists of three jigs:
Lisnagun Jig by Brendan Ring, The Grackle by Malcolm Stitt, John Stenson’s No. 2
Musicians: Tomás Callister (Fiddle), Adam Rhodes (Guitar Bouzouki), David Kilgallon (Keys), Greg Barry (Drums & Percussion).
Mec Lir are a brand new group formed in 2014 by three of the Isle of Man’s most well respected trad musicians and one of Scotland’s freshest new talents. Tomás Callister on Fiddle, David Kilgallon on Keys, Adam Rhodes on Guitar Bouzouki and Greg Barry on Drums and Vocals.
In 2011, young Manx fiddle player Tom Callister left the Isle of Man to study for the UHI trad music course on Benbecula. There he met a Scottish musician, also studying on the course called Greg Barry, and they became good friends. Later, when Tom was looking to form a new group in 2014, Greg was the obvious choice as the drummer. Adding Manx musicians David Kilgallon and Adam Rhodes to the mix and you get Mec Lir!
Their upbeat and energetic attitude and presence, brings fun pop-sounding backing to lightening-fast reels and jigs, a magical cocktail of traditional Celtic music.
