The Dog Song by Anna Cassidy

Contemporary folk artist and singer-songwriter Anna Cassidy is set to release her highly anticipated new single, ‘The Dog Song’, a refreshingly unique take on love that is far from your typical ballad. Drawing from her Irish roots and inspired by modern singer-songwriters, Anna brings an engaging, light-hearted, and heartfelt perspective on love – this time, through the eyes of a dog.

Originally from Belfast, and now based in Glasgow, Anna Cassidy has been steadily making a name for herself in the contemporary folk scene. Born to two Irish folk singers, music has always been an integral part of her life. She first performed alongside her parents in her early teens, where she developed her deep appreciation for Irish traditional music. In preparation for her new releases, Anna has embraced the stage name Anna Cassidy, a nod to her evolving journey as a solo artist.

Anna’s sound takes influence from Irish traditional music whilst drawing inspiration from iconic artists such as Kate Bush, Joni Mitchell, and Carole King, all of which are evident in her evocative vocal style and piano arrangements. Anna’s early career saw her supporting acts like Bastille and The Killers during the Tennent’s Vital Festival in 2014 as part of electro-pop band Go Wolf.

The new single features Anna Cassidy on piano and main/backing vocals, Charlie Stewart on fiddle and double bass, Rufus Huggan on ukulele, Willem McKie on mandolin, Signy Jakobsdottir on percussion and Matt Gough on trumpet. The inspiration for the track came from witnessing a collaboration between Duke Special and trad group Ulaid in Belfast, where they performed the song ‘On Account of My Dog Fido’ – a piece based on a poem by W.J. Coleman.

In her words: “In today’s world we are bombarded with negative news stories, and I want my Dog Song to be a break from all that – a bit of fun. I’ve been performing it live for several years and it never fails to touch the audiences.”

On release the track will be available on all major streaming platforms, followed by a full band gig on Saturday 26th October in The Old Hairdresser’s, Glasgow (Renfield Ln, Glasgow G2 5AR). Tickets here
