Something that I Said by Mànran

Celebrated Scottish folk trailblazers Mànran are back with a bold new single, ‘Something that I Said’ which is set for release on Friday 16th May 2025. Marking a distinct departure from the band’s signature sound, the track ventures into darker, pop-inflected territory while retaining the lyrical power and instrumental virtuosity that has made them one of Scotland’s most respected traditional acts.

Written by band members Kim Carnie and Aidan Moodie, ‘Something that I Said’ explores the emotional chaos of a relationship bound to fail — and the irresistible pull to see it through anyway. The biting lyrics are underscored by an electrifying arrangement that showcases Mànran’s fearless approach to musical evolution.

Vocalist Kim Carnie said: “Pulling this song together was some of the most fun we’ve had. The song’s energy called for something darker – and that gave us the freedom to play and push outside our usual sound.”

Featuring performances from Kim Carnie (vocals), Aidan Moodie (guitars/vocals), Mark Scobbie (drums), Ewen Henderson (fiddle), Gary Innes (accordion), Ryan Murphy (flute), and Marcus Corduck (bass), the track was recorded at Buzzkiller Studio with Ross Hamilton.

The release comes as the band gears up to celebrate 15 years at the forefront of the Scottish music scene this summer, a milestone that underlines not only the band’s influence and adaptability but also its continued relevance in an ever-evolving musical landscape.

With a growing global following, award-winning albums, and sold-out shows across more than 30 countries, Mànran remains a powerhouse of tradition and innovation. Their last two singles were playlisted by BBC Radio 2, and ‘Something that I Said’ builds on that momentum with a fresh, genre-defying sound.

‘Something that I Said’ will be available digitally on all major platforms from Friday 16th May 2025, with CD and vinyl formats to follow as part of Mànran’s upcoming album which is set for release later this year.
