Track written by A Mitchell from the The Paul McKenna’s Band most recent single. Their arrangements are fresh and innovative but do not stray too far from their traditional roots. Their sound is exciting and is created by the solid lead vocals and guitar of Paul McKenna, the driving bouzouki and mandolin of David McNee, the rhythmic fiddle and banjo of Mike Vass and the melodic flute and whistles of Sean Gray, plus the explosive beat of Ewan Baird’s bodhran.
Since being awarded the title of ‘Best Up and Coming Artist of 2009’ at the MG Alba Scots Trad Awards, on the release of their first album ‘Between Two Worlds’ (CDTRAX333), the Band has gone from strength to strength, touring extensively throughout the UK, USA, Canada, and Europe. Concert highlights include appearances at Cambridge Folk Festival, Tonder Festival Denmark, Milwaukee Irish Festival USA, Goderich Festival Canada, Greentrax 25th Anniversary Concert Edinburgh, and Celtic Connections Glasgow. The Band’s second album – ‘Stem The Tide’ (CDTRAX359) – was released in 2011.
More recently Paul McKenna picked up the ‘Scots Singer of the Year’ award, while Mike Vass received the ‘Composer of the Year’ award and the Band was nominated for ‘Folk Band of The Year’ in 2012, all at the MG Alba Scots Trad Awards. What remarkable achievements for a comparatively young band.
