The Friends of William Soutar – Soutar Birthday Lecture 2017 – This Thursday In Perth!

Oor Wullie – ‘Small’ ??

Mere Miniaturist – or Major Poet?

By Dr Joy Hendry

“I thocht the hale o the world was there
Sae sma in a sma room.”
(Soutar’s stane, Makars’ Court, Edinburgh)

Soutar was fascinated by the very small, bairns and bumble-bees, but equally by the huge, the universal. On the eve of his stone’s unveiling, Hendry discusses Soutar’s legacy: how great was the gift to our Scotland, to our world, of this Perth Poet.

7.30, Thursday 27th April
Soutar Theatre, A K Bell Library, York Place, Perth, PH2 8EP
Admission Free
