Ready to discover what else your harp can do? Ignite Arts is running a two-day creative workshop for teenage harpists in Edinburgh this September, exploring contemporary approaches to harp playing with two of Scotland’s most exciting young harpists, Dara Dubh and Malachy Arnold — plus a Saltire Harp Centre harp exhibition running alongside the workshops.
Over the two days, participants will get away from the music stand and experiment with:
- Percussive harp techniques
- Bass lines and grooves
- Loop pedals and layering
- Rhythm and beats
- Pop, folk-fusion and contemporary sounds
- Creating their own arrangements
Dara and Malachy are both known for pushing the harp in exciting new directions — from Dara’s indie-pop and genre-defying songwriting to Malachy’s fusion of clarsach with electronic, house and techno influences. This is a chance for young harpists to experiment, create and find their own sound, alongside their peers in a relaxed and supportive environment.
Both lever and pedal harpists are welcome, and no experience with looping, improvisation or contemporary techniques is needed — just bring a harp and a willingness to try something new.
When: Saturday 5 & Sunday 6 September 2026, 11am–3:30pm

Cost: £30 for the weekend / £20 for one day only
