Scots Language Radio is a one hour monthly podcast supported by Creative Scotland and the Scots Language Centre. They use the Scots Language Centre’s website as our platform. Frieda Morrison produces and presents the programme and travels over Scotland doing interviews for each episode.
Each programme covers a wide range of topics based on the Culture – trad arts and skills. It’s not a programme that looks back at the past all the time – their mission is to ‘normalise’ the Scots Language and feature people who can speak or understand Scots – doing something of interest within the heritage/arts/skills arena.
‘Language is what happens when you’re doing something else’.
The first programme went out in December 2013 – and from that very special start – SLR has grown it’s listenership and has a following of thoosans of listeners all over the world.
The programme tries to keep the subject matter relevant to what’s happening in Scotland now and keep people informed about what’s happening re the arts and culture scene – without making it exclusive. But in the end it’s basically it’s just a very good listen!
Frieda has been joined in the studio every month, by musician and folklorist Steve Byrne who contributes his knowledge of the seasonal customs – his expertise on all things historical and of course musical.
The network o fowk is growin bi the day. Wir nae staanin aboot – wir gaan aboot.
