Bùthan-Obrach air Òrain Ghàidhlig: Gaelic Song Workshops with Margaret Stewart

Gaelic Song Workshop for Young People

A dedicated space for teenage Gaelic speakers to learn and build a collection of Gaelic songs.

Led by award-winning singer Margaret Stewart, a native Gaelic speaker from the Isle of Lewis, the workshop draws on her deep knowledge of Gaelic song, extensive repertoire, and understanding of its cultural and historical context. A Mòd Gold Medallist, and Scots Trad Music Hall of Fame inductee, Margaret brings decades of experience as a performer, researcher and tutor.

Through song learning, conversation, and shared listening, participants will grow in confidence in Gaelic singing and build a collection of songs for solo performance, ensembles, cèilidhs, or informal sessions. Sessions will take a participatory, workshop-style approach, supporting musical development, language confidence, and cultural awareness.

This is a rare opportunity for young Gaelic speakers to learn directly from Margaret herself, and to connect with their musical heritage in a supportive peer environment.

Suitable for age 13+

We can make tickets available free of charge for children who would benefit from this opportunity, but for whom cost would be a barrier. Contact moira@anlanntair.com for details.

This activity is part of SOUNDWAVES – TONNAN-FUAIME, An Lanntair’s music development project funded by Youth Music Initiative Access to Music Making fund which creates access to high-quality music making opportunities for children and young people aged 0 to 25 years. The Youth Music Initiative is a music education programme with a vision to put music at the heart of young people’s lives and learning funded by the Scottish Government through Creative Scotland.
