Amateur musicians are invited to join Aberdeen Folk Orchestra (AFO) for a friendly one-day workshop on Saturday 3rd October 2026, 10am–4pm (time TBC), at the Phoenix Centre, Newton Dee, Bieldside, Aberdeen, AB15 9DX.
AFO have long been keen to bring Dr Richard Michael on board to lead one of their events — and they’re delighted he’s agreed to head up this one.
About Richard
Originally from Stonehaven, Richard has led workshops throughout the UK and Europe. A graduate of RSAMD and Honorary Professor of Jazz Piano at the University of St Andrews, he has the versatility to work on any theme, in any key, in any style — and can improvise a fugue, a blues, a standard, or an eightsome reel at a moment’s notice.
The workshop
There will be music for all traditional instruments, including woodwind and brass. The day is open to any musician at intermediate level and above.
Cost: £25 (free to AFO members) — this includes the workshop, sheet music files, refreshments, lunch, and a whole lot of fun.
