As part of the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards we have an Album of the Year category (sponsored by Birnam CD). We asked musicians to add their albums from the last 12 months (September 2015 to August 2016) and then in September 2016 we asked our Album panel (20 musicians / industry people) to listen to all the releases and bring it down to 20. You can view all the albums from the period here. Below is our 2016 Scots Trad Album of the Year Longlist. Click on the links and read about the albums. We have also created a Scots Trad Album of the Year podcast featuring all 20 longlisted albums for you to listen to here.

Any more information you would like to tell us? | A suite of new music that was commissioned for the world-renowned Celtic Connections festival, January 2019 in Glasgow. I am heavily involved in, and influenced by the vibrant Scottish Folk and Trad music scene. At its core, Milestone is a product of this. But my musical experiences, both as an artist and a fan, reach far and wide beyond this arena. I’ve not been afraid to wear my heart on my sleeve with this music and I'm not ashamed to cite these influences as key to the sound: Daft Punk, Cinematic Orchestra, Bjork, Air, Pink Floyd, Jamiroquai, DJ Shadow, The Foo Fighters, Massive Attack, Craig Armstrong, The Beatles… Influences closer to home include bands like Treacherous Orchestra and Croft No. FIve (both of which I was a member of) and the late visionary, Martyn Bennett. Each of these musical influences evokes memories of different milestones in my life. I wanted to pay tribute to some of these moments in the form of a musical response.
