*Stunning Irish/Scottish traditional music with a twist*
meets
*Multi-award-winning Canadian fiddle and piano virtuoso *
Nuala Kennedy – vocals, flute, whistles, keys
Donald Hay – drums, percussion
Michael Bryan – guitar
with
Troy MacGillivray – fiddle, piano
Renowned traditional singer and flautist Nuala Kennedy grew up playing
music in Dundalk, Co. Louth, but it was in her adopted home of Edinburgh
that her passion for traditional music was ignited. Internationally
recognised as a composer and songwriter, she has performed around the world at festivals, clubs and concert halls, most recently completing a full
length tour throughout the U.S. with her band in March 2014.
The Nuala Kennedy Band were nominees for “Folk Band of the Year 2013 in
the MG Scottish Traditional Music Awards.
Fiddler Shona Mooney made her debut with the Nuala Kennedy Band at Celtic Connections 2014 and will be joining them for several concerts during
April/May – Shona is a fiddler with a unique style from the Scottish
Borders and a recognised soloist in her own right.
Singer/flautist Nuala Kennedy and fiddler/pianist Troy MacGillivray first
met and played together at the Celtic Colours International Festival over a
decade ago. Over the years they continued to tour together and have
developed an intuitive and complementary duo style, which when combined
with the dynamic Nuala Kennedy Band, is sure to result in some musical
fireworks.
Recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for outstanding
contributions to culture in Canada, Troy MacGillivray is a multiple
award-winning, internationally recognised virtuoso of the Cape Breton style
of fiddling and piano. In October 2013, he released ‘Tune Poets’ his fifth
solo album to critical acclaim.
“*Troy’s incisive bowing, flowing melody lines and vibrant, rhythmic feel
were apparent in everything he played.”*
