We asked Adrian Harris of The Queen’s Hall the following questions.
Tell us about yourself
The Queen’s Hall is Edinburgh’s leading live music venue hosting over 200 public performances a year.
Why are you involved in Scottish music?
Simple – it’s amongst the best in the world. It pulls off the difficult job of producing the most interesting new music whilst being comfortable with its incredible heritage. So often innovation doesn’t sit well with tradition but Scottish music seems to effortlessly embrace both.
Any particular career highlights?
Keeping going for 35 years is no mean feat in the ever-changing music economy. Seeing the best of the best perform at the Hall – too many names to mention – and watching as the next generation of artists are inspired by them to go from being in the audience to being on the same stage.
What are your plans for the future?
More – lots more – of the same! We want to continue the development of our folk/roots/jazz programming so can bring the most exciting artists to Edinburgh audiences year-round. We also want to build on the success of events like The Martyn Bennett Prize for traditional music composition and Resonate (our Edinburgh schools concert series) to nurture the talents of the future.
