We asked Craig of Music Hall, Aberdeen the following questions.
Tell us about yourself
The Music Hall is one of Scotland’s oldest and most historic concert halls. It stands on Union Street in the centre of Aberdeen and has been at the heart of cultural life in the city for nearly 200 years.
It is a diverse venue, catering for a variety of events from grassroots to established music acts, as well as ceilidhs, award dinners, exhibitions and creative engagement such as choirs and workshops.
The Music Hall is run by Aberdeen Performing Arts, one of Scotland’s leading cultural organisations, enriching lives and bringing people together through the power of creativity.
Any particular career highlights?
We are proud to provide a platform for trad music, with our year-round programme including bands such as Skerryvore, Elephant Sessions and Tidelines, and a vibrant and varied ceilidh programme.
The Music Hall has hosted the Scots Trad Music Awards awards three times, in a growing repertoire of awards and special events.
Alongside this the venue also delivers lasting community impact, working to engage with the community and provide meaningful opportunities to engage with the arts.
What are your plans for the future?
To continue to grow and evolve, ensuring that the Music Hall remains a relevant and indispensable space for creativity, preserving our support of musicians and trad music as well as pushing forward and looking ahead at creating new opportunities.
Our events programme continues to expand and we look forward to finding even more versatile uses for our spaces, remaining a hub of creativity for generations to come.
